Decision guide

Which Claude certification is right for you?

Anthropic's 4 Claude certifications map to 4 different roles, not 4 difficulty levels of the same test. The fastest way to pick correctly is to start from your role, not from the certification name.

Do you write code as part of your work with AI?

Read down the list below until one row matches how you actually use Claude today.

Your roleRecommended certWhy
Client-facing / delivery practitioner (consultant, seller, delivery, ops, PM) - non-technicalCCA-A
Claude Certified Associate - Foundations
Associate - Foundations is built specifically for non-technical roles that use Claude day to day without architecting or shipping code.
AI/ML engineer or senior software engineer shipping production Claude apps, agents, or workflowsCCD-F
Claude Certified Developer - Foundations
Developer - Foundations tests hands-on build skills: agents, integration, tools/MCPs, prompt and context engineering, evaluation.
Solution architect with 6+ months of practical experience building production Claude appsCCA-F
Claude Certified Architect - Foundations
Architect - Foundations is the original Claude certification, scenario-based, and the cert with the deepest, most mature practice exam and question bank on this site.
Mid-senior solution architect or AI/ML engineer with 3+ years of systems-architecture experience and 6+ months of Claude in productionCCA-P
Claude Certified Architect - Professional
Architect - Professional goes deeper: governance/safety/risk, stakeholder communication, and lifecycle ownership on top of solution design.

Foundations vs Professional - and the CCA-F / CCAR-F name

Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCA-F, officially CCAR-F) is the original Claude certification and targets solution architects with 6+ months of practical experience building production Claude apps. Claude Certified Architect - Professional (CCA-P, officially CCAR-P) targets a more senior bar: 3+ years of systems-architecture experience plus 6+ months of Claude in production, and adds governance/safety/risk and stakeholder-communication domains on top of solution design.

Both names - "CCA-F" and "CCAR-F" - refer to the identical Architect - Foundations credential. CCAR-F is Anthropic's official exam code; CCA-F is the shorthand this site and most of the community have used since launch, and it carries the certification's search equity. Nothing about the credential changed between the two names.

Still not sure?

If none of the rows above feel like a clean fit, the safe default is Architect - Foundations (CCA-F) - it is the broadest starting point and the most mature prep here. FAQ

Decision FAQ

Every Q is phrased as a real Google search query. Answers cite the same evidence-tagged sources used elsewhere on the site.

How do I decide which Claude certification to take?
Match the cert to your actual role. Non-technical client-facing roles fit Associate - Foundations. Engineers who build and ship Claude apps fit Developer - Foundations. Solution architects with 6+ months of hands-on Claude experience fit Architect - Foundations. Architects or AI/ML engineers with 3+ years of systems-architecture experience plus Claude production time fit Architect - Professional.
Can I take more than one Claude certification?
Yes - the 4 certs test different skill sets and roles, and Anthropic does not restrict how many you hold. Many architects take Architect - Foundations first (it has the most mature prep material and the deepest question bank), then move to Architect - Professional, which also has a live diagnostic, warm-up, and mock.
Do I need Architect - Foundations before Architect - Professional?
Anthropic does not publish a formal prerequisite chain between the two. In practice, Architect - Professional targets more senior architects (3+ years systems-architecture experience, 6+ months of Claude in production) than Architect - Foundations (6+ months of practical experience) - so most candidates find Foundations content a useful on-ramp even without a hard requirement.
What if I am technical but not an architect?
Developer - Foundations is the fit: it targets AI/ML engineers and senior software engineers who ship production Claude apps, agents, and workflows, rather than the end-to-end solution design that both Architect tiers test.
Is CCA-F the same thing as CCAR-F?
Yes. CCAR-F is Anthropic's official exam code for Architect - Foundations; CCA-F is the shorthand this site and most of the community have used since the certification launched. Both names refer to the identical credential.
