Claude training

Claude training, mapped.

Claude training splits four ways, and three of them are free. Anthropic runs its own free courses, the four Claude certifications are paid proctored exams from $99 to $175, structured exam prep on this site is free with no paid tier, and independent creators sell courses from nothing up to several hundred dollars. This page says plainly what each one is, what it costs, and when it is worth your time - including the parts that are not ours.

Short answer

Start with Anthropic Academy and the free diagnostic. Pay for the exam only when your mock score is clearing 720.

The four options

What "Claude training" actually means.

These are not competitors. Most people who pass use two or three of them together.

  1. 01

    Anthropic Academy

Who / cost: Anthropic · Free

Anthropic's own course platform. Claude 101, Claude Code 101, MCP foundations, the AI Fluency framework, and platform-specific courses for Bedrock and Vertex AI.

Good for: The canonical source. If Anthropic says a thing works a certain way, this is where they say it.

The catch: Course-shaped, not exam-shaped. It teaches the product; it does not drill you against a scored bar.

  2. 02

    The Claude certifications

Who / cost: Anthropic, via Pearson VUE · $99 to $175 per exam

Four role-based proctored exams announced in July 2026 - Architect (Foundations and Professional), Developer, and Associate. 53 to 63 questions depending on the exam, 120 minutes, 720/1000 to pass, valid 12 months.

Good for: The only Claude credential that is actually a credential. Badged on Credly.

The catch: Eligibility runs through the Anthropic Partner Network, so it is not simply open to everyone yet.

  3. 03

    Structured exam prep

Who / cost: This site · Free

A 10-minute diagnostic that names your weakest exam domain, 71 concept lessons, a month-by-month course path, spaced-repetition flashcards, and a mock scored to 1000 against the real 720 bar.

Good for: Answers the question the Academy does not: am I ready, and what specifically am I weak at.

The catch: It is prep, not the credential. Passing our mock is evidence, not a certificate.

    Paid third-party courses

    Who / cost: Independent creators · $0 to $500+

Video courses, cohort programmes and bootcamps sold on YouTube, Udemy, Maven and direct.

Good for: A good one can save you time, and a live cohort gives you people to ask.

The catch: The single loudest thing people said about Claude training in the last 30 days was that it should not cost this much. Check what is free first.

What people are actually saying

The loudest complaint is the price.

We ran a 30-day sweep across Reddit, X, Hacker News, GitHub and YouTube on 8 August 2026 - 75 items - looking for what beginners struggle with and what training they ask for. The three highest-scoring posts in the whole window were the same post, written three different ways.

  • "You don't need a $500 Claude course." - @Tech_Rose1, 26 July, 324 likes. A list of 52 free resources.
  • "Stop paying hundreds of dollars for Claude courses." - @heytafsirul, 20 July. 50+ free resources in four modules.
  • "People think learning Claude takes days. It doesn't." - @sauda_coder, 20 July, 321 likes. 17 free guides.

Three independent people, in the same week, all writing the same rebuttal to the same thing. That is not a coincidence, and it is worth taking as advice: exhaust the free options before you spend anything. The only Claude training you genuinely cannot get for free is the certification exam itself.

Coverage note: Instagram and TikTok returned nothing in that sweep - both failed on a paywall - so this reads Reddit, X, Hacker News, GitHub and YouTube only, not the whole internet.

FAQ

5 questions about Claude training

Every Q is phrased as a real Google search query. Answers cite the same evidence-tagged sources used elsewhere on the site.

Is Claude training free?
Mostly, yes. Anthropic's own courses on Anthropic Academy are free, and the structured exam prep on this site is free with no paid tier. The two things that genuinely cost money are the proctored certification exams, which run from $99 to $175 depending on which one you sit, and a paid Claude plan if you want Claude Code in your terminal. Paid third-party Claude courses exist and some are good, but check the free options first - the most-shared Claude posts of the last month were all curated lists of free resources, written specifically as a reaction to $300-500 course pricing.
What is the difference between Claude training and Claude certification?
Training is the learning; certification is the proof. Anthropic Academy and this site are training - courses, lessons, practice. The Claude certifications are four proctored exams delivered through Pearson VUE. They share a format - 120 minutes, a 720/1000 pass mark and 12-month validity - but not a size or a price: they run from 53 to 63 questions and from $99 to $175. You can do all the training without ever sitting an exam, and the training is what actually makes you better at the job.
Where should a complete beginner start?
Claude 101, then the free diagnostic. Claude 101 assumes you have never opened Claude and takes about 70 minutes across six lessons. The diagnostic takes ten minutes, needs no account, and tells you which of the five exam domains you are weakest in - which is a far better guide to what to study next than any generic syllabus.
Do I need Claude Pro to learn Claude?
Not for Claude itself - the free plan lets you chat, generate code, search the web, upload files and keep memory across conversations at no cost. You do need a paid plan for Claude Code specifically: Anthropic's help centre states that Claude Code in the terminal comes with the Pro and Max plans, Team and Enterprise include it too, and the pricing page lists the free plan without it. So a beginner can learn Claude for free and only pay when they want the terminal tool.
How long does it take to learn Claude?
Hours for the basics, months for the exam. Claude 101 is about 70 minutes of reading. Getting genuinely productive - prompting well, keeping context durable, using Projects and Claude Code - is a few weeks of real use. The certification is a different bar: candidates passing 720+ typically put in 30 to 45 hours of focused study, and the month-by-month course path spreads that across a longer run.

Plan prices and what each plan includes were read from claude.com/pricing and Anthropic's help centre on 8 August 2026. Pricing is the fastest-moving fact on this page - check the source before you spend money on the strength of it.
