Foundations and diagnostic

Week 1 is calibration. Take the diagnostic on day 1, then get oriented on why Output Evaluation & Validation - judging Claude's output, not producing it - is the single heaviest domain on this exam.

D2 Output Evaluation & Validation, full week

Output Evaluation & Validation is 21% of the CCA-A - the single heaviest domain. It gets its own full week because judging Claude's output is the exam's central skill.

Accuracy, completeness, and error detection

Evaluating Claude-generated output for accuracy and completeness, identifying hallucinations, inconsistencies, and bias, and applying fact-checking technique.

Adapting and formatting the final output

Judging when human review is required, then editing, adapting, and formatting outputs for the intended audience.

04 · Week 3 · themes

D4 Workflow Integration & Solution Design, and D6 Governance, Risk & Responsible Use

16% plus 15% - together 31% of the exam. Week 3 shifts from judging Claude's output to embedding it responsibly into how a team actually works.

Workflow integration & solution design

Using Claude to analyze requirements and use cases, leveraging it for research, planning, and process optimization, and communicating Claude's value and limitations to stakeholders.

Governance, risk & responsible use

Identifying appropriate vs. inappropriate AI use cases, data-sensitivity and privacy considerations, organizational AI governance policy, and the ethical implications of AI usage.

05 · Week 4 · themes

D3 Product & Model Selection, D5 Configuration & Knowledge Management, D7 Troubleshooting, then synthesis

The remaining 34% of the exam, then the full mock. These three domains are lighter individually but round out a complete non-technical practitioner's toolkit.

Selecting the right Claude product feature for a task, differentiating model tiers, and configuring Projects with instructions and knowledge sources.

Troubleshooting & optimization

Diagnosing underperforming prompts or weak output, adjusting approach based on feedback, and optimizing workflows for efficiency - the smallest domain by weight, but a common source of easy points.

Final synthesis

One full 60-question mock timed at 120 minutes, then a targeted review of every wrong answer against the anti-patterns reference before you book the real exam.

06 · Compression and expansion

2-week sprint and 8-week comprehensive

The 4-week plan is canonical. The two alternates use the same content at different paces - they are not separate plans.

Already working with CCA-A-relevant skills in production

Compress week 1 into 2-3 days of diagnostic plus targeted reading on your weakest domains only. Spend the remaining time on the heaviest domains plus scenario reps, then reserve the final 3-4 days for a full mock, gap closure, and a second timed mock.

8-week comprehensive

Newer to Claude, or a slower sustainable pace

Stretch each domain across the first six weeks of reading plus practice, giving the heaviest domains their own dedicated week each. Reserve weeks 7 and 8 for two full mocks and every scenario walkthrough.

07 · Final readiness gate

Before you book the proctored exam

Before you book the proctored session, confirm these five things.

  1. You scored 720+ equivalent on at least one full, timed 60-question mock.
  2. You can name all 7 domains and their weights from memory (Output Evaluation & Validation is 21%, the heaviest).
  3. You've walked all 5 of CCA-A's dedicated scenarios.
  4. You've read the anti-patterns reference and can articulate why each wrong answer is wrong, not just which one is right.
  5. You've read the day-of checklist and confirmed your ID, room, and workspace meet Pearson VUE's proctoring rules.
08 · After registration

Once your exam is scheduled

CCA-A has no prerequisite courses or exams, so registration itself is quick - the remaining prep is the plan above plus the day-of logistics. Read the day-of checklist a few days before your session so nothing about the proctoring environment surprises you.
